Welcome back!
As we prepare for the start of a new school year, the IT Training and Student Information Systems teams have created a comprehensive Opening of School Guide and compiled key resources, action items, and reminders to support your opening-of-school planning. We encourage you to review this announcement to help ensure a smooth and successful start for staff, students, and families.
Opening of School Action items:
As you prepare for the first day of school, please take a few moments to complete these high-priority tasks:
☐ Process Online Enrollment Applications
Review and finalize pending Online Student Enrollment (InfoSnap) applications to ensure students are enrolled before school begins. Always use District Student Search prior to creating a new student record to prevent duplicate student IDs. Monitor your InfoSnap submission workspace regularly.
☐ Run the following reports ahead of the first day of School
☐ Incomplete Enrollment SqlReport to complete any missing demographic information.
☐ Missing Home Language Survey SqlReport to submit the student's demographic information to apply the languages saved from InfoSnap Online Student Enrollment. Do not add or update the languages families entered online.
☐ Missing or Invalid Demographics Data SqlReport to find students missing, incomplete, invalid, or address-validation errors on the Student Demographics page.
☐ Students With No Class Assignments SqlReport to identify students without a class schedule.
☐ Scheduling Conflicts - Elementary SqlReport to identify sections scheduled in incompatible periods and students enrolled in course sections that do not match their grade level.
☐ Verify Bell Schedules and Calendars
Before the start of the school year, verify that the bell schedules and cycle day entries on the calendar accurately reflect school site schedules. Additional information on bell schedules and calendars below.
A few minutes spent reviewing the checklist items now can prevent enrollment, attendance, and reporting issues later in the school year.
Student Transfers:
The active student transfer window is now open.
Important: Once the school year begins and attendance has been recorded, the student's previous school must be contacted to complete the transfer process. The Transfer Active Student process will remain available through August 14, 2026. Please refer to the Enrollment Handbook for detailed procedures.
Avoid Duplicate Student IDs:
Before enrolling a student, use District Student Search to confirm whether the student has previously attended a San Diego Unified school. Duplicate records can affect data integrity, student services, and state reporting. If you find or create a duplicate ID, submit a Freshservice ticket for assistance.
Parent Portal Access:
On Friday, August 7, 2026, at 12:00 pm, the PowerSchool Parent Portal will be enabled for all schools. If your school chooses to disable the Portal over the weekend, it must be enabled by the start of school.
Parent Portal is a key tool for connecting with families and collecting important student information. New and returning families who do not yet have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account must create one to view student information, complete annual forms, and stay connected with their school.
Schools can use the Portal Access for Parents and Students report to monitor account access. To access this report, from the left menu, select Data and Reporting, then go to Reports, select sqlReports and expand the Parent/Student Portal report group.
Review portal access regularly and remind families to create and maintain active accounts. For more information, refer to the Parent and Student Portal Administration Handbook.
Bell Schedules and Calendars:
Please verify that Bell Schedules and Calendar entries accurately reflect your school's approved instructional program and instructional minutes.
This includes:
Timely review helps prevent attendance, scheduling, and compliance issues later in the school year. For changes, complete the PowerSchool Bell Schedule Change Application, available on the Pupil Accounting Staff Portal and email it to Pupil Accounting (Kate Formanek - [email protected]), Transportation ([email protected]), and Food Services (Colleen Robinson - [email protected]).
