About IT Division Projects

We are constantly working on new projects in the IT Division to support San Diego Unified teachers, students, schools, and district staff. This website is intended to share some of the details about the variety of projects supported by the IT Division.

Besides the multiple new technology projects completed each year, the IT Division supports and maintains the following technology and reporting needs for district staff and schools:

  • 600+ servers, used for everything from file and print servers to websites and district wide applications
  • 2PB+ (Petabytes) of storage
  • 150,000+ student and staff computing devices
  • 6,500+ technology equipped classrooms
  • 500,000 documents printed a year, including W2s, report cards, and paychecks
  • 45,000+ Help Desk calls a year
  • Nearly 100 district-hosted applications and services
  • Nearly 50 cloud-hosted applications and services
  • Nearly 100 other instructional and operational systems where data is securely sent and/or received
  • A Wide Area Network consisting of 240 sites and 2 large data centers
  • 20Gbps Internet connection
  • 7,000 switches and 207 routers provide the WAN/LAN interconnectivity
  • 9,000 wireless access points and 4 wireless controllers to provide wireless coverage districtwide
  • 104 PBX (phone) systems supporting 5,926 phones
  • 80 Sites on VoIP servicing 9,074 phones
  • 4,000 Walkie Talkies
  • 670 Cellular and MiFi devices
  • Over 250 training sessions for PowerSchool, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs per year to support school and district staff
  • Generation of numerous online and printed training and support materials for school site and district staff
  • State/federal reporting to CALPADS and other systems for over 100,000 students and over 13,000 staff
  • Professional development and support to over 6,000 instructional staff in the use of Illuminate, FAST, and other online assessment tools
  • Generation of numerous demographic and student achievement reports to support decision making by instructional leaders and teachers
